There are so many options for sunscreen out there—it can definitely get confusing. To help cut down on the guesswork, I've put together a list of some of my favorite sunscreens from Japan ☀️🧴
Before we dive into the products, let's quickly go over the basics of sunscreen application.
How you apply it matters just as much as what you use!
Why Application Matters & The "Two-Finger Method" ✌️
When it comes to sunscreen, the amount you apply is just as important as the SPF rating. The SPF numbers listed on the packaging is based on a standardized test where sunscreen is applied at 2 mg per square centimeter of skin.
Meaning: If you don’t apply enough, you won’t get the full protection stated on the label.
Then, How much is enough?
Let;s say your face is about 20 cm x 20 cm ( roughly 400 cm²), you’d need 800 mg (or 0.8 g) of sunscreen to cover it properly.
A quick and easy way to measure the right amount of sunscreen is the Two-Finger Method.
Squeeze a strip of sunscreen along the full length of your index and middle fingers.That’s the recommended amount for your face and neck combined.

The UV rays in Dubai are so intense. Even with regular sunscreen application, I’ve noticed that my skin wasn’t fully shielded. After spending a few summer months in Dubai last year, I started to see hyperpigmentation that I never had before.
